History
The Beagle is a breed from Great Britain. Their ancestors were already known in ancient times, where small hounds hunted hares and rabbits. In the Middle Ages, they were bred as hounds for hunting. Their small size, strength and excellent sense of smell made them ideal companions for hunters. The Beagle was officially recognized by the Kennel Club of Great Britain in 1890 and the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1885.
Personality
The Beagle is an energetic, friendly and intelligent dog that is perfect both as a hunting dog and as a companion. It requires plenty of exercise, consistent training and regular health care to enjoy a long and healthy life.
It is a medium-sized dog (33-41 cm at the withers, 9-11 kg). The fur is short, smooth and close to the body. Color: tri-color (black, white, brown), two-color (e.g. lemon and white). Strong and compact construction. Long ears, large eyes and a rectangular muzzle.
The Beagle is very sociable, friendly and gentle. He gets along perfectly with children and other animals. He is intelligent and curious, but can be independent and stubborn. Requires consistent training. He has high energy levels. He loves physical activity, including long walks and playing. Cooperative, but can be stubborn. Needs positive reinforcement during training. He is very sociable and friendly towards people. He likes to be in the center of attention and enjoys the company of his family.
Health
Health problems to which the breed is prone: hip dysplasia, eye problems (glaucoma, cataracts, entropion, ectropion), ear infections (due to long, floppy ears, beagles are prone to ear infections), skin allergies and other dermatological problems , overweight. They tend to gain weight, which can lead to other health problems.
The coat requires minimal care. Regular brushing is enough to keep it in good condition. Inspection of ears, teeth and claws is essential.
