Poodles were valued by the European aristocracy, especially in France, where they became a national symbol. In the 18th century, the French court adopted poodles as companion and circus dogs, which contributed to their popularity. Poodles come in three sizes: standard, miniature and toy. Each of these varieties is the result of selective breeding aimed at obtaining dogs of different sizes but with the same characteristics. Poodles are recognized by all major kennel clubs in the world, including the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI).
