History
The Samoyed comes from Siberia, where it was bred by the Samoyed (Nenets) tribes. Used as a sled, shepherd and guard dog, it was valued for its endurance, strength and sociable nature. Samoyeds were bred for the harsh climatic conditions of Siberia, which made them extremely hardy and resistant to cold. Due to their close contact with people, Samoyeds have developed an exceptionally friendly and sociable character.
In the 19th century, Samoyeds began to be imported to Europe by polar explorers who appreciated their endurance and harnessing abilities. One of the first Europeans to bring Samoyeds to the West was the British zoologist Ernest Kilburn Scott, who spent three months among the Samoyed tribes in 1889. He brought several dogs to England, which initiated the breeding of the breed in Europe. After Samoyeds were brought to England, the breed gained popularity and began to be bred on a larger scale.
The first club of breed lovers was established in England at the beginning of the 20th century. Shortly thereafter, Samoyeds reached the United States, where they also gained popularity as companion and exhibition dogs. Samoyeds were recognized by the AKC in 1906. The breed is recognized by the FCI, which classifies it among the Spitz and primitive dogs.

Early and regular socialization is crucial to ensure good behavior in a variety of situations. It requires a consistent but gentle approach.
